Simon Pyke ‘Lost and Found’ Soundscape

I was commissioned by Twelve design, vPPR and The National Trust to create a sound installation for the Rex Whistler mural at Plas Newdd house and gardens in Wales. The work was created as part of ‘Behind the Stage‘, an exhibition sharing insights and stories whilst the house undergoes a major refit for the next 2 years.

Expanding on themes of fantasy within the mural, Lost and Found is inspired by both the miniature stories and epic grandeur found within. Brought to life through a collage of sounds forging links between the past and present day, the soundscape exists in two elements;  Ambient ensembles, and short audio scenes which focus on particular areas of the mural. These elements are played back in random succession allowing each audience member to have a unique experience of the piece, and encourage their own interpretations of what they hear.
